3-5 Year Olds
(Kindergarten Program)

Our 3 – 5’s program places a strong focus on meaningful and respectful conversations and interactions by children with both peers and educators. This further develops language skills and deepens understandings of your child’s current knowledge as well as challenge further thinking. There are many opportunities for play experiences in which children will learn and develop. Planned and spontaneous experiences across all areas of development, including numeracy and literacy, will challenge the children’s curiosity, problem solving skills and promote exploration and investigation. Throughout these activities, your child will learn from other children and educators whilst appreciating these contributions and the joy of working collaboratively. Your child will be exposed to a variety of learning materials, equipment and resources which will be used in many different ways to support and stimulate your child’s creativity and imagination.

Your child’s independence is supported and encourages.  Toileting, hand washing, eating, dressing and caring for belongings are all important self-help skills and opportunities are provided to practice and develop these.  Your child will also be encouraged to take on an active role in managing their own behaviour and to value and show care for others in the group.

Our Menu

Children are provided with a well-balanced, nutritious menu based on the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents developed by the National Health and Medical Research Council. The daily menu includes breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea and meals are provided on a flexible schedule to suit the needs of children. The menu is clearly displayed throughout the Centre and our educators will record each child’s food intake during the day which is available for parents in your child’s room. Chatterbox endeavours to provide a range of options to cater for children with special dietary requirements whenever possible. We also ensure that water is readily available to children throughout the day.

Rest and Sleep

“Rest” is defined as a period of inactivity, solitude, calmness or tranquillity and can include a child being asleep. Children will be offered the opportunity to rest for periods appropriate to their age and stage of development. If your child sleeps, the time they fall asleep and wake will be recorded for your information.

Toileting

Chatterbox recognises that children need adults to help them manage their toileting needs. Educators will discuss the individual toileting requirements of each child with their family and incorporate these into daily life at the Centre. Chatterbox supplies disposable nappies for children who are not yet toilet trained and this is included in the daily fee.

What to Bring

At Chatterbox we try to make life as simple as possible for our busy families. We therefore supply most daily requirements for each child, including food, bed/cot sheets and sunscreen.  All families need to pack is a water bottle, a change of clothes and a hat each day for your child.

What not to bring

Please also ensure that items that could be a risk to children are not left in your child’s bag. These items include plastic bags, safety pins, food items, medications, rubber bands, hair clips, sharp items or toys with button batteries.  While all care is taken with children’s belongings, it is not always possible to guarantee their safety so we ask that all toys and possessions of value remain at home.
